Islamabad Police Register 132 Sexual Assault, 709 Kidnapping Cases in Nine Months

ISLAMABAD: The capital police registered 132 sexual assault and 709 kidnapping cases between January 1 and September 30, 2026, police sources told Dawn.

In a recent incident, a 26-year-old woman was allegedly abducted and gang-raped in Gangal while returning home from work, according to police sources.

The sources said some men spotted the woman near Gangal stop late in the evening, overpowered her and took her to a nearby wooded area, where they allegedly subjected her to gang rape before fleeing.

The victim later approached the police and was shifted to a hospital for a medico-legal examination. However, police allegedly delayed registering the case while waiting for the medical report. An FIR was eventually registered on Friday under Section 376 of the Pakistan Penal Code but was subsequently sealed on the orders of senior officers, the sources said.

In a separate case, a kidnapping victim was allegedly taken out of Islamabad and murdered in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the sources added.

According to police officials who spoke to Dawn on condition of anonymity, the 132 sexual assault cases were reported across five police zones. Soan Zone recorded the highest number at 40, followed by Saddar Zone with 32, Rural Zone with 25, Industrial Area Zone with 20 and City Zone with 15.
