A case has been registered against four Islamabad police officials, including a former station house officer (SHO), and two other men for allegedly stealing cash and valuables worth over Rs1.4 million and illegally detaining a man.
The case was registered at Sumbal police station on the orders of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), after the complainant, Owais Butt, alleged that police had failed to register a case despite an earlier court order.
According to the FIR, the incident took place at Butt’s dera in Sector F-12 on August 19. Butt said a guest called him and informed him that his servants had quarrelled with their neighbours.
His cousin, Khawar Butt, went to the property and found police officials and two other men searching the premises and breaking doors, the FIR stated.
When Khawar objected, the SHO allegedly pointed a gun at him and snatched his mobile phone. The suspects then allegedly took away Rs475,000 in cash and valuables worth around Rs1 million.
The FIR further stated that Khawar was taken to the police station and released the following morning.
Speaking to Dawn, Owais Butt alleged that the police had also registered a false case against him over a fight. He said he obtained pre-arrest bail from a court the next day.
According to Butt, the court later cancelled the case after the person who had filed the complaint said he did not know about it.
Butt then approached the court to seek registration of a case against the police officials and the other men. He alleged that the police did not act on the court’s order, forcing him to approach the Islamabad High Court.
The IHC also ordered the police to register the case, following which the FIR was lodged under various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code relating to criminal threats, damage to property and alleged misconduct by public servants.
