Judge Who Rejected Hammad Azhar’s Remand Placed on OSD

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has removed District and Sessions Judge Sardar Muhammad Akram Khan from his position as administrative judge of an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore and placed him on the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) list.

According to a notification issued on October 28 by LHC Registrar Abdur Raheem, the judge was directed to hand over his charge by October 29.

He will remain posted as an OSD at the Lahore district courts until he receives his next assignment. He will also continue to receive the benefits and privileges attached to the position of a sessions judge.

Sardar Muhammad Akram Khan had taken charge of ATC No. 4 on August 31 and served in the position for nearly two months.

His removal comes days after he rejected a police request for an extension in the physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Hammad Azhar in the Jinnah House attack case linked to the May 9 riots.

Hammad Azhar was presented before the court on Tuesday, with police seeking further physical remand. However, the judge rejected the request and sent him to jail on judicial remand.

Before his appointment to the Lahore ATC, Sardar Muhammad Akram Khan was serving as a judge at the banking court in Sialkot.
